Human trafficking is incredibly widespread and our industry has an important role to play in keeping our community safe from this harm. PRLA is now partnering with Businesses Ending Slavery & Trafficking (BEST) to provide FREE human trafficking prevention training for PRLA members and their staff.
About BEST's Training
Inhospitable to Human Trafficking
BEST offers the most comprehensive human trafficking prevention training available in the country for hospitality employees. BEST's training is a proven tool that helps victims of human trafficking escape exploitation and helps trained hotels become less hospitable to traffickers. Survey research has shown that before receiving training only 8 percent of trainees recognized a trafficking incident within the prior year. After taking BEST's training the number jumped to 44 percent of trainees identifying victims.
TRAINING MODEL OPTIONS
Everyone who completes the training will receive a certificate. This certificate may satisfy state/local training requirements but it is the responsibility of hotels to verify whether the training meets such requirements.
The Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Tool Kit provides resources for people who work in the lodging industry and accompanies the online training course.
Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST) is the first nonprofit organization in the country dedicated entirely to working with businesses to disrupt human trafficking. BEST has provided consultation and training to hundreds of hotels focused on reducing human trafficking and mitigating the reputational, legal, and financial risks associated with it. BEST has trained thousands of hotel employees and equipped them to protect their hotel and employer from human trafficking.
BEST's Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Training is sponsored by the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA).
Everyone has a role in fighting human trafficking. Our industry is well-positioned to recognize and report it, so we want to ensure our members have access to the right training so they know what to look for. We chose to partner with BEST because BEST offers outstanding online training that will equip our members and their employees to take action when they suspect a problem."
