Hospitality Industry Relief Efforts

COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program (CHIRP)

CHIRP is a new $145 million statewide program created by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to alleviate revenue losses and pay eligible operating expenses for certain businesses in the hospitality industry, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding was allocated to counties in the form of block grants based on population size. COUNTY BREAKDOWN

Basic eligibility for the grant include the following:
  • Be physically located in the county you are applying in and in operation as of February 15, 2020.
  • Have a NAICS designation within the Accommodation subsector (721) or Food Services and Drinking Places subsector (722) as its primary activity.
  • Have a documented 25% reduction in gross receipts between 2019 and 2020 due to financial impact from COVID-19.
  • Be a for-profit business and not a publicly traded entity.
  • Have a maximum tangible net worth of not more than $15 million as of February 15, 2020.
  • Have fewer than 300 full-time equivalent employees entity-wide as of February 15, 2020.

Each county is responsible for preparing their own application process, as well as outlining any additional eligibility criteria. We've rounded up the links available for each county's CHIRP information below. If your county is not listed, then we don't have their information yet.

Multi-unit operators with locations in multiple counties should apply for a CHIRP grant in the county where their home office is located.

Contact sotterson@prla.org with link submissions or corrections.
